Sardinia: one of the most enchanting lands in Italy

This region owes its fame above all to the splendid sea it has: clean and unspoiled!

Get to know Su Nuraxi di Barumini

The Nuragic village of Su Nuraxi di Barumini stands in an area called Marmilla in the river valley Mannu at the foot of the Giara, within the province of Medio Campidano.

It is a human settlement that developed between XIII and the 6th century. a.C. made entirely of basalt blocks: includes buildings and huts.

E’ first arisen around nuraghe whose function was that of a lookout on the sea, in order to monitor animals and cultivated fields. In addition, it could also have a military purpose to defend against enemy assaults since they were located in strategic points.

E’ one of the 30 archaeological sites better preserved: it was a very rich territory and, today, consists circa 1.300 inhabitants.

Su Nuraxi in Barumini it was also inhabited by the Romanian as evidenced by the traces of walls from the Roman era.

In the Middle Ages it was also annexed to the Giudicato of Arborea in fact in the historic center it preserves beautiful churches: the Church of San Nicola (archaic-pisana) it is to Church of San Giovanni dating from the thirteenth century.

The basaltic highlands di Giara are the home of the ponies that can be admired while galloping among the downy oaks, the centuries-old cork oaks, the Mediterranean, ilex and temporary ponds. They have a mysterious origin but it is a wonderful area for cycling and hiking.
