From Polignano to Taranto: the path of two seas that cross Puglia

This trait is called the “Route of the two seas“: a wonderful trait that gives Polignano a Mare door to Taranto.

E’ a path that unites two seas: the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic sea. A path to enjoy the beauty of the Puglia starting from the sea of ​​which it is a pleasure to inebriate your eyes, passing through the countryside among the ancient olive trees and the vines full of good wine and why not…also reaching the palate with excellent food.

Turn among all these wonders that will be possible “enjoy” with a nice walk by bike or on foot to “savor” all slowly and in contact with the most suggestive nature.

The stages that “crossing” this walk

  • The path starts from Polignano a mare: native land of Domenico Modugno to whom a statue was also dedicated. Extraordinary sea not to be missed: taking a bath in those waters is unique;
  • the second stage is Castellana Grotte: you can admire the karst caves including the White cave and at the exit from the city also the church of Madonna of the cave and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Vetrana;
  • the third stage is Alberobello, where you can admire the famous Trulli (more than a thousand), today too UNESCO heritage;
  • the path continues for Locorotondo: you cross the Contrada Correggia and a part of the cycle path of the Apulian aqueduct. Locorotondo, develops in a circular way (as the name of the city suggests), and it is a magical country with many alleys and many white houses with roofs “cummerse“;
  • the fourth stage is Martina Franca which with its narrow streets leaves tourists spellbound: here you can enjoy a wonderful salami known all over the world: the capocollo of Martina Franca;
  • It goes by Crispiano and you reach the regional nature reserve which goes to the Wood of the Pianelle: stage where you can discover the unspoiled beauty of this area;
  • finally we reach the last stage: Taranto. E’ known as the “city ​​of the two seas“: Mar Grande e Mar Piccolo. The Mar Grande is connected to the mainland via the Swing bridge and the Porta Napoli bridge, while the Mar Piccolo is located internally creating a double inlet north of the city.
