The original splendor – A shot for hope”. Photo exhibition by Charley Fazio and refugees Syrian children in Kilis: 11 May to 28 July in the Truss Room of Palazzo Sant'Elia in via Maqueda, 81in Palermo. Opening alle ore 18. Visits from Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 all 13.30 and the hour 15.30 all 18.30 | Saturday and Sunday from 10 all 13 and the hour 16 all 19.
“The Beauty Ritrovata – A shot for hope” was born during the humanitarian missions carried out by the Author in the Turkish town of Kilis. In the countries bordering Syria there are today millions of refugees and in Kilis alone thousands of children live in makeshift shelters with no prospect other than passive survival. Charley Fazio, thanks to its extraordinary sensitivity, has been able to portray the inner beauty from them kept making small refugee real resilience icons.
He proposed a photography workshop to some of the children so that they could seek their personal vision of "beauty" through the lens of an instant camera. The shots, moving and delicate, allow to virtually enter the atmosphere in which the children live in exile, to touch their misery and yet to concretely perceive the profound dignity that animates them. The exhibition itinerary thus becomes a powerful tool for educational interaction through the gaze offered and received.
The traveling exhibition is linked to the activity of the Joy for Children APS Association engaged in support projects for the minors involved in the exhibition. The Palermo stage, after Milan, Torino, Naples and other Italian cities where has collected a remarkable success of public, It is sponsored by the Mayor and the University of Palermo, promoted by the Fifth Council Commission and the Association of Culture Week and is part of the program of the event now in its eighth edition.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 11 May 2019 at 18 and will remain exposed until 28 July 2019 in the Sala delle Trusses of Palazzo Sant'Elia. Even the schools of Palermo, as it was done for the students of other cities, They will be invited to participate in guided tours and to realize the "Notebooks of Beauty", a collection of reflections and thoughts that allows younger more interaction with the spirit of the project.
The care of the project is entrusted to Titti Di Vito, creator and curator of cultural events, responsible for communications and the artistic work of Charley Fazio. Charley Fazio is a professional freelance photographer born in Palermo. Semifinalista al Sony World Photography Awards nel 2008, times finalist in competitions National Geographic Italy, he collaborates with various Italian magazines. In 2016 he exhibited his works at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea in New York and is currently engaged as a reporter on humanitarian missions on the borders between Turkey and Syria. He is president of Joy for Children APS which he founded to give back to needy children the gift of love and beauty they received.
