Ars Excavandi

Museo Ridola
Hypogeum Palazzo Lanfranchi

Ars Excavandi is the exhibition that opens the dance of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019.

As an initiatory path strewn in caves, the international exhibition ranges from the Paleolithic to the present, investigating for the first time the art and excavation practices that give rise to landscapes, underground architecture and civilizations over the centuries.

From the city of Matera to the most important rock ecosystems in the world, from the first excavation at the model for the organic architecture of the future. Like a wormhole that runs between the Ridola Museum and Palazzo Lanfranchi Hypogeum, Ars Excavandi reads from a contemporary perspective the art underground. Visitors will discover the secrets of the underground world thanks to multimedia tables and augmented reality and multi-sensory experiences that will allow them to build a connection between past and present, along a journey that aims to make all current and contemporary civilization through the ages.
