Exhibition “Manna from heaven – Painter Giorgio Vasari” the Mandralisca Museum
The exhibition “Manna from heaven – Painter Giorgio Vasari” It opens to the public 10 March and is part of the celebrations for the 110th Anniversary of the birth of Henry Pirajno Mandralisca (1809 – 2019). The exhibition is the result of an important collaboration between the Cultural Foundation Mandralisca, the Regional Gallery of Palazzo Abatellis, the Department of Culture and Sicilian Identity and MondoMostre, sponsored by the City of Cefalu.
The two panels painted by Giorgio Vasari, depicting "The fall of the manna", from the collection of the Palazzo Abatellis and they have been realized 1545 from Arezzo painter for the refectory of Santa Maria di Montoliveto Naples; They arrived in Palermo in 1828, gift of Francis I of Bourbon for the nascent art gallery of the city. The two works are placed in dialogue, art gallery in the Palazzo Mandralisca, with the precious edition of 1681 the Vasari text "Of Lives of the most eminent painters, sculptors, and architects ", part of the Library Mandralisca. The organization and institutional relations must be the commitment of Dr. Laura Gattuso (Vice President of the Fondazione Culturale Mandralisca), while the scientific curatorship and educational supports are of Dr. Evelina De Castro, director of the Regional Gallery of Palazzo Abatellis, and Dr. Rosalia Liberto, the Board of the Foundation Mandralisca. The exhibition “Manna from heaven” expands the cultural offer of the Foundation Mandralisca, thus showing how the synergies between cultural institutions to create virtuous paths for the better enjoyment of the Sicilian artistic heritage.
