Antique Fornaci Maiorana

The Antique Fornaci Maiorana at the foot of Monte Pellegrino, near the Acquasanta district, not far from the Hotel Villa Igiea and the monumental Villa Belmonte, are a pre-industrial complex consisting of two furnaces for the production of lime and a mill for the production of aggregates. The plant covers an area of approximately 3.000 m2 located above a pirriera, ie a quarry of calcarenite from which since the eighteenth century was drawn the building material, and it is divided into three levels including a large part ipogea. Manufacturing activity initiated by Sebastiano Maiorana remained active until 1968.
The exhibition was inaugurated last 29 November 2018, directly as an initiative promoted by the Regional Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity.
