Matera, Southern Italy and the Mediterranean between 400 e 500.
But who said that the Renaissance was only a matter of central and northern? Let's try to change perspective, from south. From the shores of that Mediterranean is a crossroads of cultures and civilizations, of people, and arts, always. We'll find out a different Renaissance, that communicates with Florence, Milano, Rome and Venice without losing its peculiarities. It will be a different story.
This is the objective of "the Renaissance from the South", an exhibition curated by Marta Ragozzino, Pierluigi de Castris, Matthew Ceriana and Dora Catalan presenting a fresh look one of the most flourishing periods of our country. The course will open with the Mediterranean and will lead us to Naples, Spain, Provence and Flanders, a map that portrays a world and artists and scholars who have populated the. The works, more than 180, come from the most prestigious Italian and European museums, and are the symbol of an eclectic culture, that does not forget its origins: portraits and sculptures alternate with maps and pilot books, in a game of references and interconnections that point to a culture of exchanges and contaminations, the meeting point between the Renaissance and Mediterranean.
