The Basilicata it is a region to discover…E’ located in a geographical area with an enviable landscape.
It has a city like Matera that with its amazing “Sassi” gave her the chance to become UNESCO heritage and culture. Among other things, it was also chosen as a film set for various nationally and internationally produced films: “Christ's passion” at Mel Gibson.
“Travel” among the typical products of Basilicata
But besides having so much to see, Basilicata, “gives” also many typical products of its region to taste with real pleasure. A territory is also known through the taste of its flavors.

Here is a rundown:
- PGI Matera Bread: it is made in the shape of spikelets or in loaves. E’ prepared with native sourdough and has a thick crust at least 3 mm;
- Aglianico del Vulture DOC: very fine wine produced under the DOC brand. It belongs to the Monte Vulture area: it has a ruby red color, full-bodied and intense taste;
- Beggar of the Matera Mountain has become part of the products protected by the brand Slow Food.
- Pepper of Senise PGI: it is obtained from a variety of horn or hook peppers with a thin pulp and a low concentration of water. After maturing in the right place, they are collected and tied with twine and thread to form the typical ones be (necklaces) and left to dry;
- L’ cauzunziedd’: they are bundles of fried pasta with a filling of chickpea puree but also of chestnuts (with added cinnamon). They come in a crescent shape: they are completed with a sprinkling of icing sugar or honey. They are a dessert of the Christmas tradition;
- The bean of Sarconi PGI: it represents the peasant tradition and takes its name from the municipality of Sarconi where little more than a thousand people live;
- The chestnut varola of the Melfese Vulture: it is the symbol of the richness of the forest and every year, a festival is organized in Melfi which has reached its 60th edition;
- Red aubergine of Rotonda DOP: it was introduced to local crops in the 20th century when, during the fascist period, was imported from Africa;
- Rotonda DOP White Bean: in 2004 has been included in the list of traditional products of the region and every year the Rotonda White Bean Festival;
In 2004, Rotonda White Beans have been included in the list of traditional products of the Basilicata Region.
- Pecorino di Filiano DOP: seasoned hard cheese made from sheep's milk. It takes its name from the municipality of Filiano with just under 3000 inhabitants. It is left to mature for at least 180 days in tuff caves. Every year, on the first Sunday of September, Filiano organizes the Pecorino di Filiano DOP Festival;
- Salame Beggar of the Matera Mountain: is a salami flavored with dried pepper (sweet or spicy), wild fennel and suet. Everything is immersed in jars with oil. E’ became part of the products protected by the brand Slow Food;
- Caciocavallo Podolico: is one of the products of the Presidio Slow Food. Anfosc (association to which all producers of cheese with milk derived from grazing animals belong) he has worked hard to ensure that this aged cheese makes its way around the world;
- Caciocavallo Silano: it is an interregional DOP aged cheese,involving 52 municipalities of Basilicata and also Calabria;
- Canestrato di Moliterno PGI: it is a hard mature cheese that is obtained from sheep and goat milk. It is matured in the foundation (cantine) since they have a fresh and ventilated environment;
- Oliva Majatica: it is a variety of olives typical of the Lucanian calanques.
