The whole island of Sardinia it is full of Nuraghi: there is not a corner that does not have the presence of nuraghi and its people.
The Nuragic people are a mysterious civilization that has left a mark of the past with its particular constructions.
The archaeological site “Su Nuraxi” (The Nuraghe) is a nuragic village of Sardinia unique in the world, so much so that in 1997, was nominated by Unesco World Heritage Site.
The site, which represents the best complex of nuraghi best preserved over time, states how the prehistoric population was able to use the right materials and imagination to create fantastic constructions for that era.
This village was discovered thanks to the excavations carried out in the fifties which testify a culture of about two thousand years: from the construction of the sixteenth century. a.C. until the Roman era in the seventh century. d. C.
The monument representing the “Barumini nuragic palace” it is a basalt stone construction made up of four corner towers and a central one of 18 mt.
The central tower is the oldest structure. Inside there is a crescent-shaped courtyard with a deep well 20 meters: perhaps it was the home of master. Around this large building there were small circular huts: they were used for ritual or domestic activities.
It was originally almost tall 20 meters and was divided into three floors: it had an imposing appearance. It was from 1478 a.C. (Bronze Age).
The outer walls of Barumini are very old and served as a defense for the whole village dating back to the Bronze Age between the 11th and 10th centuries BC.: it is thought that Iron Age populations of the 9th-8th century BC have settled there.
Unlike similar prehistoric settlements, “Su Nuraxi” can be visited walking among the remains of its millenary village, and you can discover them, thanks to little clues, uses and customs of its ancient people. For this Barumini is the symbol of Sardinia of the great stone monuments: a suggestive and mysterious place to visit.
Barumini, symbol of Sardinia, it is one of the largest stone monuments: certainly a suggestive and mysterious place to visit, but above all to love because it is rich in history and will leave an indelible mark over time.
Traveling to reach it is the ideal solution to admire its beauty.
