The cave church of Santa Barbara is considered as one of the most important rock works on the entire national territory and Matera. The facade has two entrances, an entrance which leads to a small secondary environment and the main entrance, embellished with 2 columns with capitals. Inside the church is divided into 3 environments, ie the narthex (one place space between the nave and the main facade of the church with the function of a short hallway), presbytery (The real church) and the apse (architectural structure with a semicircular or polygonal), as well as a small side structure that, probably, It housed the caretaker of the church itself. Outside the cave church of Santa Barbara there are some ancient rock tombs.
