Discovering Piazza Armerina and Aidone

The Enna area has a rich cultural endowment and widespread and considerable natural heritage. The main towns are a tourist destination Piazza Armerina and Aidone.

The whole world knows what is Piazza Armerina, for the Villa Romana del Casale and its beautiful mosaics (IV sec d.C.) declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city is easily recognizable from a distance because of that its Duomo, seventeenth-century building, but all the Sicilian soul, all it stretched as it is to compete with the crown forever White Etna that stands behind him. And nothing else has the strength to come between these two giants, house of a bad God and scorched the first, house of a God who is peace and beauty of the second, not at all dedicated to Our Lady of Victories. To her is dedicated to one of the most popular events in all of Sicily, Norman Palio, that every 13 e 14 August enacts the arrival of Roger the Norman, honored by cloth painting, it is said, from San Luca.

Aidone is one of the city's oldest and most historically significant of Sicily, as witnessed by the archaeological site of Morgantina and the Regional Museum which houses, in addition to unparalleled treasures, the "Morgantina" Venus in 2011 returned to Italy from J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu.
The city was built by Roger de Hauteville, arrived on the island to drive out the Arabs and bring "civilization". Aidone is the beautiful Sicily that was, that of Arab-Norman multiculturalism, and the beautiful Sicily is, that of the smell that smells of dew and the stones that tell the history. Here history has the yellow color of the stones of San Lorenzo, the eleventh century Matrix (but it may have been built before the Mille) that to the left of the beautiful Gothic portal brings engraved the ancient measurements of the palm and the barrel. Here the story has soft shapes of Santa Maria La Cava, the twelfth century. Here history is written and rewritten as the ancient stones used, and reused, for the Basilica of San Leonardo.
